Well, both. Cardiologists' evaluate a patient and if surgery is needed, they consult with a surgeon. Cardiologists' perform certain procedures IE: Pacemaker implantation. Surgeons can perform heart bypass, vascular surgery IE: femoral popliteal bypass.
Many cardiologists do perform invasive procedures, ie. cardiac catheterizations. Granted, it is not open heart surgery. But, cardiothoracic surgeons do make more.
cardiac surgeons. surgeons always make more money no matter what kind they are. They get to charge a big price for one surgery when a non-surgeon has to see a lot of patients to make the same amount
What do you mean by better?
If a CT surgeon takes on huge risks of patients dying on a daily basis, and works twice the hours of the cardiologist, and actually gets called in to operate on a regular basis in the middle of the night, he certainly deserves a lot more money than a cardiologist who sees patients in his office Monday through Friday.
The CT surgeon will take home a lot more than the cardiologist, but his/her stress level is much higher.
