Hardwood floors are great. I like the laminate floors myself and have installed quite a few of them. They will also save you having to refinish them.
Carpeting in the bedrooms for insulation, but hardwood snap lock or whatever elsewhere I love hard wood
Both types of hardwood floors r great & can be excellent for the home. How long they last (WEAR) is dependent upon the amount of use & abuse the floors receive. Even pets cause wear on them. Moving furniture & just plain walking on them. Hardwood floors will last many years, but naturally the more u walk & move things on them the faster they will wear down. It should also be said that when the wear down they can sometimes be refinished which will add a few more years to the life of the floor. As for the bedroom, I prefer carpet, but that is my preference, yours may be totally different.
We put in hardwood floors because we have 3 dogs and bad allergies. We got bella hardwood flooring. It looks great, wears great, and has a 50 yr warranty. I too thought i would hate stepping onto wood flooring in the morning but it isnt that bad and i normally keep my slippers by the bed.
Hardwood floors r beautful & much easier to clean than carpeting.
A couple suggestions.find some that can be cleaned with a mild soap & water. I say that, because when a person gets older & wants to remain in their home vs assisted living hardwood floors r a really good thing. For those with walkers they're easier to get around on rather than carpeting. They're also easier to clean when the elderly have problems with continence.
For those with allergies hardwood floors r a good thing as well. Again, much easier to clean & the allergens r more difficult to get out of carpeting, especially if someone has pets.
We put Bruce hardwoods (by andersen floors) in our new home in kitchen, dr, and great room. They are interlocking floors. WE love them. We have carpet in the BR and family room to add warmth.
We have not yet had a problem w/ scratching, though I dropped a heavy jar candle and it did add a little dent. I told my husband it added charm.he did not agree =)
I have the snap together hardwood floors and love them. They were easy to install and look great. Wear great too. I've had them for about 3 yrs now and look as good as the day we put them down. I want to put hardwood in the bedrooms too when I get the money. They are much easier to care for then carpeting.
actally my dad put those in our houses while i was helping him it saves time and money and they look really nice in our house!
