The toughest part is cutting the pieces without chipping the corners and edges of the piece. There is a technique to it so you should go to web sites like DIY and see how to cut. The rest is cake. You remove the old siding, install your corner channels or J channels then your starter strip at the bottom. Working your way up to the top on each wall.
It is just like anything else I suppose. There is a process involved, steps to be followed, specialty tools, ect. The simple task of applying the siding is the easy part. it all kind of snaps together. keep it level & do not nail it to tight. It needs to expand & contract. it is the prep work & trim work that make the job turn out perfect. Your corners & J trim around windows & doors r important to be applied correctly. Then there is the metal capping over ur fascias boards & wood trim. You will need a brake to bend it & some experience. If u wind up scraping material to learn u might as well have hired a professional in the first place. I would try ur skills out on a shed first before i tried to tackle the house. Good luck!
Vinyl siding is very easy to install if u have someone that knows what they're doing instruct you. (It is easier with 3 people anyway. 1 on the ground cutting the siding, 2 on ladders/scaffold hanging the siding.)
Once u learn the basics & the tricks, such as where to use starter strip & where to use j-channel or how to cut the corners to fit or how to keep it level all the way around the structure or how to float the siding to keep a straight appearance thru hot & cold weather, the actual labor is real easy.
Find 1 friend that knows what he is doing, & another friend to help. An average house can be sided in about 10 - 14 hours with a crew of 3.
No its not that hard. Vinyl has a serious fudge factor, so it is well within the reach of most DIY'ers. May I suggest reading some articles on-line and perhaps a book from the library. The tools need are very basic (hammer, util knife, snips are handy to have about, tape measure, and a chalk line is handy for getting the first course started off right)
Good luck and have fun.
good luck.
