Cardiology is a very specialized field & requires a great deal of formal education. However, before u can begin specialized education in cardiology, u must first obtain an undergraduate degree as well as complete post-graduate medical training from an accredited medical school. At most colleges & universities u can do ur undergraduate work in pre-med, which will better prepare u for the more specialized & advanced post-graduate study. Courses in each of these programs will include study of biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, & biostatistics to name a few.
4 years under grad 4 med school, then there is 8 year res for cardiologists who are generally for adults and 6 for pediatric ones. you can do fellowships and internships to, but at the least it takes 16 years. it will cost a lot, but if you are passionate about it and get the job, you can pay back student loans.
more time and money than you can imagine is required to get started let alone become a cardiologist.
